Are there days you feel like chopping off your hair and sporting a completely different look? The same old hairstyle can be boring and monotonous and there are times you may feel like wearing something a bit more unconventional. Should you take the plunge and get a funky haircut? While it may be liberating to wear a completely new look, getting an unconventional, funky haircut has its disadvantages. Here’s what to consider before you start cutting.
You may miss your hair.
Most funky haircuts are short with lots of layers and a few spikes. Getting a funky haircut usually requires shedding a great deal of hair, unless, of course, you already have short hair. Are you really ready for such a drastic change or would it be better to keep your hair longer and change the style by adding color or subtle layering? If you’re accustomed to wearing long hair, you may miss the feeling of hair brushing against your shoulders. Remember hair only grows around a half inch per month. It could take a while to grow out a super short, funky haircut.
You may feel naked with so much face showing.
A super short, funky haircut exposes everything including all of your facial flaws. If you have Mickey Mouse ears or a hint of a double chin, it will be enhanced by a funky haircut. Longer hair is a security blanket for some people. Make sure you have the confidence and style to carry off a complete face exposure.
People may look at you differently.
If you get a short, funky haircut, particularly if you style it into spikes, people are going to look at you differently. They may see you as being more radical in your views and habits which could affect your ability to get certain types of jobs or to be promoted within your current one. As silly as it may sound, some employers promote people based on appearance. The employee with their hair slicked back into a bun with conservative dress is, unfortunately, more likely to be promoted than a person wearing a short, spiky haircut, regardless of credentials.
You may not like the lack of flexibility.
There are only so many ways you can wear a super short, funky haircut. If your hair is longer and all one length; you can wear it in a multitude of ways. You can sweep it back into a ponytail, wear it up, braid it, curl it, straighten it, and get a variety of different looks. You’re going to be fairly limited with a short, funky hairstyle.
Before taking the drastic step of getting a funky haircut, head down to your local wig store and pick up a super short, slightly funky wig and wear it when the mood strikes. It’s the ultimate in flexibility.
