Measuring Instructions

To determine the correct size for your stock unit, please use the manual head measurement directions provided below.

For custom units you can provide manual head measurements or a template mold.  However, if you are providing a template mold, manual head measurements are also required.  A template mold of your head is strongly recommended because it provides a more accurate fitting and a hairline that closely matches your own.

Materials Needed:  Clear plastic wrap, Packaging tape, Dry erase marker, Permanent marker, Scissors, Assistance of one person.

Braid or wrap hair flat into the style that will be worn underneath the wig.

Cut a large sheet of clear plastic wrap large enough to cover your head.  If it is not large enough, you can tape two sheets of wrap together.

Place this sheet over your head. The sheet should completely cover your head and extend about 4 inches below your entire hairline.  The part of the sheet extending over your face should be above your nose. Do not cover your nose or mouth.

To hold the sheet in place during the subsequent processes, you can twist the sides of the sheet extending below your ears and tape or tie them underneath your chin.

Using the packaging tape and making sure the sheet is firmly in place, apply one layer of tape around your head, circling the most protruding part of your head, the middle of your forehead, and the temple areas.

Place one layer of tape from ear to ear, front to nape, and around the circumference of your head, making sure to go around the nape and ears.  Make sure the tape is not applied too tightly.

Using a dry erase marker, trace an outline of your hairline.

Place one layer of tape over this outline making sure not to smudge the outline with your hands during this process.

Outline the hairline just drawn and covered with tape with a permanent marker.

Place several layers of tape (at least 3-4 layers), enough to keep mold firm and maintain the shape of your head, vertically and horizontally along your entire head, making sure to cover the marker outline.

When complete, the mold should look similar to the pictures below.

Remove the mold from your head, and using scissors, trim along the marker outline.

Label the unit in the front with the letter ‘F’ and in the back with the letter ‘B’ to distinguish between the front and back of the mold.  Write your name along the crown of the mold.

Place the completed template mold on your head to make sure it fits properly.  If the outline of the template is too short in some areas, extend the area with tape and layer with at least 3-4 layers of tape (cover the sticky side with a layer of tape).  Redraw the correct outline of your head with a permanent marker and cut the new outline with scissors.

Materials Needed:  Soft measuring tape

Wrap or braid hair flat into the style that will be worn underneath the wig.

Circumference:  Measure (in inches) starting at the center of your front hairline, go around the back of your head, right above your ears, around the nape, and right above your ears on the other side, and end at the center of your front hairline.

Front to Nape:  Bend head forward (this will allow room to prevent the wig from sliding up or down when you bend your head during wear). Measure starting at the center of your front hairline keeping the tape straight, and end a little below (~1/4 inch) your nape hairline.

Ear to Ear over top of head: Measure starting at the hairline right above the ear, go over the top of your head and end at the hairline right above the other ear.

Ear to Ear across forehead: Measure starting at the hairline above and in front of the ear, go around the front hairline and end at the hairline above and in front of the other ear.

Temple to Temple around back: Measure starting at the hairline of the temple area, go around the most protruding part of the back of your head, and end at the hairline in temple area on the other side.

Nape: Measure the width of your nape at the neck hairline.

Notes:
While measuring, hold the tape taut against the head, but not too tight.
